Waterloo Road actress Heather Peace and his wife Ellie “go wild” after a nanny refuses to work for a family with two mothers.

The couple have three children and described the shocking rejection after needing a short-term nanny to cover while Heather worked and Ellie recovered from surgery.

Heather – who starred in Waterloo Road as Nikki Boston from 2012 to 2014 – wrote on Twitter: “Today my wife @ ElliePeace01 was looking for a short term nanny while I work for the next few weeks. She had surgery yesterday, which means she can’t lift the babies for two weeks. We haven’t experienced a lot of homophobia before but … I’m pissed off.

And in a longer Facebook post, Ellie explained why it was so hurtful to be seen as a ‘lesser family’

She said: “Today I had an unpleasant shock when a nanny I booked through an agency refused to work for a family with two mothers.

“It took me years to understand why I was so deeply sad and angry about this particular subject. And it was because of my three wonderful children.

Ellie Peace shared a heartbreaking statement on Facebook

” To be judged. Of our time. As ‘inferior’. As part of a “disreputable family”. In Brighton of all places. “

Ellie said she told the agency boss it was a “disgrace”.

She continued, “But I’m still in shock… As I lay there waiting for my most wonderful eldest daughter to fall asleep in what I can only hope to be tomorrow a more inclusive and less hate-filled world. Love wins, people, resistance is futile.

But their fans shared their shock and offered their support, with one writing: “Well that’s just hideous, totally stunned. I am really sad that this has happened to your lovely little family.

Another said: “I have no words but to send you, your amazing wife and your beautiful children, hugs.”

The couple entered into a civil partnership in 2013 before converting to marriage in 2017. Heather became pregnant with her eldest daughter Annie in 2015 and they welcomed twins last year.
