Responding to concerns about procurement for Covid-19 saliva testing services

A number of concerns have been raised with us regarding the Department of Health’s purchase of Covid-19 saliva testing services.

We met with ministry staff and requested information on certain aspects of procurement in order to understand how it was managed and how final decisions were made. After reviewing the information from the ministry, we consider that further investigation is not warranted at this time. However, we have identified concerns regarding aspects of the management of this procurement that we describe in a letter to the department.

The Right Honorable Winston Peters has also written to us regarding procurement and we have responded to the points raised in his letter.

We have posted both letters on our website.
