Ohio police say the death of a newborn is being investigated after he died in the custody of social services.

According to court documents, infant Logan Dollison was placed in foster care shortly after his birth in December 2021. The baby was born at home and was later taken to O’Bleness Hospital in Athens . He never returned to his biological parents, identified as Lindsey Householder, 30, and William Dollison, 32.

On Jan. 7, Logan died while in the custody of Athens County Child Services, NBC 4 reports. The housekeeper said the last time she saw her son, he was doing well and doing well on medical examinations. Then she received a call informing her that Logan was in the hospital.

“I was told he was in the hospital in Columbus, but I was under a (snow emergency) so I couldn’t make it,” Householder said.

It would have taken two weeks before Householder could see his son and identify his body. She also said someone informed her via text message around midnight that her son had died. According to Otis Crockron, the director of Athens County Children’s Services, that wouldn’t have happened with his agency.

“We take a situation where there is a child death seriously,” Crockron said. “We would contact the mother directly and we would never notify by text, but I cannot speak on behalf of the adoptive parent or what the mother has shared. … This should never happen, to learn more about the text.

“We spent a lot of time making sure the mother had what she needed. I can tell you that we have been open and available for the mother and would do anything we can to help in this situation.

Meanwhile, Capt. Bryan Cooper of the Athens Sheriff’s Department said the case is being investigated, although details surrounding the baby’s death are mostly unknown.

“This is an open investigation,” Cooper said Wednesday. “It’s a thorough investigation. Every resource we can will be put forward to determine Logan’s death.

So far, the infant’s cause of death has not been revealed.
