It’s a big day for theaters in New York State. When you go to the movies, it’s always the same, isn’t it?
We’re talking popcorn, candy, nachos, and soft drinks (or soda, as non-Buffalo residents might call it). But this week, a decision many had been waiting for came to fruition for theaters across New York State.
WKBW announced that the New York State Liquor Authority has unanimously approved the sale of wine and beer in movie theaters in New York State.
This means that people will now be able to buy beer or wine from concession stands and bring them into the auditorium, although any theater looking to sell wine or beer must apply for a liquor license from the New York State Liquor Authority.
The only theaters before that that were allowed to sell alcohol were establishments that were considered “restaurants” and sold wine or beer in a bar before entering the theater.
I go to the cinema often and this will be a welcome change, especially for those who have wanted this to happen for a while.
If you’re wondering, this takes effect immediately, though again, a theater must be approved for a liquor license by the NYS Liquor Authority.
