The award-winning feature film “Hard Luck Love Song” explores the difficult relationship between Jesse, played by Michael Dorman, and Carla, with Sophia Bush of “One Tree Hill”. Jesse is a charismatic but hapless troubadour who hustles at dive bars, lives in cheap motels, and makes bad decisions.
In “Hard Luck Love Song”, Jesse finds himself at an existential crossroads during a chance encounter with his former flame Carla. The two embark on a crazy and hectic adventure in hopes of rekindling their relationship, but their complicated past destroys their happy reunion.
“The Knockturnal” spoke exclusively with the two lead actors Dorman and Bush to learn more about the film and its characters.
“For me, the real kind of joy about this movie was exploring someone who wasn’t the best at something,” Bush remarked. “To play a woman who is ashamed of her experiences, who has been shaped by difficulty, who is not the best at something, but wants to be better, and believes that there is something in that connection, this love, this partnership that makes her come to life.
The film, written and directed by Justin Corsbie, is based on the song “Just Like Old Times” by acclaimed American singer / songwriter Todd Snider.
“Hard Luck Love Song” hits theaters on October 15th.
