This year AuPairCare participated in two impactful volunteering events in the Bay Area: Exchange Day and California’s Coastal Clean Up. On the day of the exchange, cultural exchange organizations participate in charitable activities that support local communities. For this year’s exchange day, AuPairCare program participants and staff spent the day volunteering at the San Francisco – Marin Food Bank to pack and organize food that would be delivered to families in the area. of the bay in need. From Santa Cruz to San Francisco, AuPairCare volunteers have come together to help clean up the Bay Area’s beaches and waterways by removing waste and recyclables from California waters.

San Francisco host mom Casey Barnes attended this year’s beach cleanup and said, “This event was an incredible opportunity for all of my family, including my au pair Dani. Dani feels like part of the local community and spending time with au pairs in the area. Plus, I was happy that my kids were participating in an activity that gave back to their community in a fun and easy way. We have learned that it is important to spend time volunteering no matter where you are in the world.

Over the next few months, AuPairCare has been planning events to volunteer at children’s hospitals, collect food, and create care packages and Build-a-Bears for children in need. These events illustrate how this community goes beyond the expectations of a cultural exchange program and represents how people from different backgrounds and cultures can come together to make a difference.
