PAINESDALE – Alice L. Gerzetich, 91, a resident of Painesdale, died Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Omega Home in Houghton with her family by her side.

She was born on December 16, 1930 in Trimountain, MI, daughter of the late Arne and Aune (Taipoli) Hovey. Alice grew up in Painesdale and attended Jeffers’ School.

After school Alice worked in Manitowoc, WI as a nanny and in Chicago, IL at Western Electric.

On December 3, 1949, Alice was united in marriage to her perfect partner William “Invoice” Gerzetich. The couple resided in Chicago before moving to settle in Painesdale. On September 8, 2004, Mica predeceased her.

In the 1970s, Ms. Gerzetich had taken a job as a cook for the Jeffers’ school which she continued into her 70s. She enjoyed visiting the students every day and was able to leave a lasting impression. In 2002, she had the honor of having the high school yearbook dedicated to her. Alice was also a bit of a social butterfly who visited her family and friends at all times. Her family always came first in her life and she enjoyed the look on the faces of her children and grandchildren each time they received a gift she gave them.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mica, her parents, her sister Shirley Hampton, her brothers: Donald Hovey and Paul Kostamo.

Surviving are his children, Bill (Janet) Gerzetich of L’Anse, Rick Gerzetich of Painesdale, Laurie (Cory Sivonen) Wareham of Trimountain; His grandchildren: Tony Gerzetich, Jozey (Jenelle) Gerzetich, Jacob Gerzetich, Kelly Lloyd (Travis), Scott (Alyssa Smith) Gerzetich and Alyssa (Brock Westgor) Wareham; great-grandchildren, Livvie, Morgann, Logane, Jaden, Tristen, Carter, Jasper and Piper; sister, Marlene (Carl) Sechan of Fenton, MI; sister-in-law, Torey Kostamo of South Range and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A prayer service for Alice will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service Mt. View Chapel of South Range with Fr. Jean Martignon officiating. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in South Range.

Friends may call Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service Mt. View Chapel of South Range and Friday from 12 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Alice’s family would like to thank the staff at UP Health – Portage, Canal View – Houghton County and Maison Omega for the care and attention provided to her during her stays.
